Happy New Year! This year has certainly started off with a flurry of snow and activity, so to help us keep warm, top up our antioxidant levels and satisfy our chocolate cravings, this month we have lovely hot CHOCShots to enjoy and even a few healthy truffles to keep us going CHOC Chick’s CHOCShot (try saying that quickly!!) is a healthy chocolate drink that is super easy to make, CHOCfull of antioxidant goodness and can help reduce your appetite and sugar cravings. All you need to do is add 1tsp of CHOC Chick raw cacao powder to a teacup of warm water (not boiling water as this will destroy the antioxidants!), stir well and sweeten with half or 1tsp agave syrup. Drink your CHOCShot 20 minutes before a meal and/or anytime you fancy something sweet.

We’ve also kept our Extra Special and Super Warming Mulled Hot CHOC Recipe up this month, as to be honest, with this incredibly cold weather, this slightly naughty hot chocolate has been an absolute lifesaver.

 

CHOCtasticaly Healthy Raw Chocolate Truffle Recipe


CHOCtastic Truffle Recipe

Soak the pitted dates in warm water for around 5 minutes. Blend the pecan nuts, coconut and dates in a food processor (keep the warm water used to soften the dates and add a little bit to the mix to help blend and moisten). Add the raw cacao powder and the agave syrup and blend well.

Place mixture in a bowl and mix well (have a little taste it’s absolutely delish). Roll spoonfuls of the mix into round balls and roll in the cacao powder. Chill the truffles in the fridge for half an hour to an hour and enjoy! These truffles can be kept in the fridge for up to 7 days or for several weeks in the freezer (simply take some out when you fancy a CHOCtreat and leave out for 10-15mins to defrost or transfer to the fridge to ensure you always have a supply ready).

 

Extra Special and Super Warming Mulled Hot CHOC


This delicious hot chocolate drink is luscious and smooth and beats mulled wine any day! All you need is a pot of warm milk (we used organic whole milk), CHOC Chick Raw Cacao Powder, Agave Syrup or Sweet Freedom, 2-3 cinnamon sticks, orange peel, vanilla bean extract, nutmeg and brandy or cognac.

  • Warm the milk up first with the cinnamon sticks, orange peel and 2-3 drops of vanilla bean extract.
  • Once the milk is warm add raw cacao powder to taste (around 1-2 tsp per person, but keep tasting to see if you need to add more).
  • Sweeten with agave syrup or Sweet Freedom (again to taste) and stir well with a metal whisk.
  • Add grated nutmeg (around 1 tsp, or to taste)
  • Finally, add a generous splash of brandy or cognac (to taste of course!) and stir well

 

Leave on a low heat to warm through and keep stirring to ensure it doesn’t boil. Keep tasting as you stirr and when you have the right flavour for you, pour into mugs or wine glasses and enjoy!
